What's On?

Skills London is a jam-packed show full of interactive, fun, inspiring and informative activities, features and hands-on demonstrations. 

We encourage you to try as many as possible and talk to the different organisations to find out more about what the future has to offer you. 

This is your chance to learn more about your future options and what employers require of you. Over 200 exhibitors will be at Skills London 2018 and eager to talk to you. Try the interactive features and hands-on demonstrations, get up to date information and great careers advice and, in short, find out more about what the future has to offer you. 

We hope that the event will inspire you towards your future career and open your eyes to the many different opportunities available across London and nationally, now and in the future.

Get Skilled and Zones

Zones Skills London brings careers, jobs, training and the world of work to life. It’s more than just a chance to hear about careers, it’s a chance to try new skills, take testing challenges and learn about all the options open to you in London.

The whole event is split into zones to help you navigate your route to success. Colour coded to help you find your way round, each zone offers a flavour of what careers, training and help is available in that industry or sector. Get Skilled stands in the zones let you try hands on activities and take away inspiration and souvenirs! The Get Skilled activities are linked to real jobs that you can do an apprenticeship in.

Skills London Features & Talks

Career Ready Talks

The Career Ready Talk theatres showcase a programme of 15 minute bite-size talks or workshops across the two days, aimed at young people. Through these talks exhibitors and sponsors will deliver inspirational short presentations or workshops about the industry they work in, informing and preparing young people for the world of work. 

There are two Career Ready Talks theatres:

Employability Career Ready Talks Theatre - Talks will focus on general employability skills such as CV writing, interview tips, confidence building and gaining work experience. 

Industry Career Ready Talks Theatre - Talks will focus on Creative, Hospitality, Retail, Leisure, Public Services, Health and Care industries.

Interview Skills and One to One Advice in the Careers & Enterprise Hub  

First impressions are so important when it comes to interviewing. Employers make decisions about job applicants within the first few minutes of an interview, and what you wear can play a big part in that. Make sure you get it right and visit Smart Works in the Careers & Enterprise Hub. This completely free, core dressing and interview preparation service achieves consistently high levels of success. The experts will advise you on exactly what to wear to ensure you look fabulous, feel comfortable and have everything you need to help ease those natural nerves. The highly skilled Smart Works team, supported with a range of interview experts and coaches, will give you one-to-one advice in a compassionate and supportive way having you interview ready in no time!

Tech Feature at the Science, Technology, Engineering and Manufacturing Zone hosted by National College Creative Industries

National College Creative Industries provides hands-on training for young people and adults who wish to start a career working backstage and off stage in the creative industries. Students and apprentices will be demonstrating the skills learned at The Backstage Centre, and in industry, to create a centrepiece that showcases their talents. This includes programming and operating moving lights, building access towers, setting up a PA system, with a sensational finale every hour. Alongside National College Creative Industries will be employer partners such as The Royal Opera House, National Theatre and White Light who will be demonstrating some further exciting career options.

Showtime Photo Booth will be supplying an animated GIF photo booth for all visitors to snap and share at the event.

All About Apprenticeships 

Supported by the Mayor of London, this area is dedicated to apprenticeships and includes the National Apprenticeship Service and other London information providers. Young people can meet on a one to one basis with Apprenticeship Ambassadors, view the latest apprenticeship and traineeship vacancies displayed on the Apprenticeship News Board and listen to a variety apprenticeship focused talks in the All About Apprenticeships Theatre.

In this area, visitors will be able to:

  • Meet on a one to one basis with Apprenticeship Ambassadors from a range of different organisations to hear about their experiences and receive useful advice.
  • View the latest apprenticeship and traineeship vacancies displayed on the Apprenticeship News Board
  • Listen to a variety of apprenticeship focused talks in the All About Apprenticeships Theatre - View the timetable here

Construction Village

Supported by CITB, visitors have the opportunity to meet some of the largest construction projects and property companies in London including; Tideway, HS2, Laing O'Rourke, Telford Homes, the Chartered Institute of Building and Go Construct. 

Discover what it means to have a career in one of the UK's fastest growing industries. All organisations will provide hands-on activities which gives visitors an insight into the extensive careers available in the design, construction and property sector including; architect, estate agent, civil engineer, construction manager, historic buildings conservationist and more.

Made in London

Presented in a gallery style area within the event, this feature will showcase products created by individuals as part of their job or training, representing some of the organisations and companies from the wide selection of key industry sectors exhibiting.

Hospitality Hub

Supported by the Mayor of London, the Hospitality Hub features international hotel and restaurant chains offering a host of different of opportunities including front of house, culinary skills, hotel management, operational roles and more.

Creative Hub

From behind the scenes to presenting in front of the camera, the Creative Hub provides young people with an opportunity to unleash their creativity and explore the wide variety of opportunities in this sector.

Teachers' Hub - open only on Friday 24th November

Hosted by Prospects Education Resources, the Teachers' Hub is a great opportunity for teachers, tutors and careers advisers to grab a free tea or coffee (courtesy of our Headline Partner Heathrow) and network with a range of organisations all keen to share up to date CEIAG information. Sue Thacker, Careers Education Development Manager at Prospects Education Resources will be on hand to offer her advice and assistance with her extensive knowledge of CEIAG, resources and Quality in Careers Standard.

Parents' Hub - open only on Saturday 25th November

New for this year, parents and carers are invited to the Parents' Hub on Saturday 25th November to grab a free tea of coffee, network with a range of organisations and receive useful information to support their child's career decisions. Our Headline Partner Heathrow and Support Partners National Apprenticeship Service, National Careers Service, Association of Colleges, Parent Partner EY and London Councils will all be on hand to answer any questions you may have. EY will also be running drop in sessions throughout the day for parents to discuss the structure of our apprenticeships, the support available and future career prospects post qualifying.

Busker's Corner

Hosted by Access to Music, budding musicians will have the opportunity to showcase their talent by performing acoustic pieces and demos to visitors. Visitors can also get involved by signing up for a slot, playing an instrument or having a sing song!
