Skills London jump on-board the Hospitality Apprenticeship Bus

To celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2018, Skills London joined forces with Umbrella Training (an exhibitor) and supporting partners on Thursday 8th March to tour a selection of London based schools using a branded Routemaster bus.

Students in years 9, 10 and 11 were invited onto the bus to meet employers, current apprentices, take away information and learn more about the hospitality sector. Students also had the opportunity to take part in the Virtual Reality Hotel (developed by Prospects and featured at Skills London 2017) to see what it is like to work in 5 star hotels such as The Ritz, The Dorchester and Firmdale Hotels.

The bus kicked off its tour at Dartford Science & Technology College, whereby the catering students served bacon sandwiches followed by an interactive session on the bus. Next stop was the Marriott Hotel at Bexleyheath including a visit from students at Bexleyheath Academy, followed by Woolwich Polytechnic School, Pimlico Academy and St Charles Catholic Sixth Form College. The bus ended its tour in style at The Ritz London for an apprenticeship awards evening organised by Umbrella Training.

The bus tour was a great opportunity to support National Apprenticeship Week, promote Skills London and provide students with an insight into the wide range of hospitality and apprenticeship careers. Sam Coulstock, Business Relations Director at Umbrella Training added “Working in partnership with Prospects has been amazing - our joint efforts to promote apprenticeships to the next generation of recruits is working with young people finding opportunities and careers.”
